Reforestation

The reestablishment of a forest stand by planting or natural regeneration. Proper tree species selection and vegetation control is usually done promptly after a forest stand is harvested. Soil quality and site indicating species are major components that determine which species of tree will be planted. As a contributing member of the Tree Improvement Program at North Carolina State University, Shoeheel Land Management is able to access performance information and breeding values for tree selections that are planted in our area. This performance information for loblolly pine are shown as scores in a Performance Rating System (PRS). With access to a wide variety of seedling sources, Shoeheel Land Management can offer sound reforestation advice and build client confidence in seedling selections.
